Charles tells Montgomery he knows the name "Moreau". He also asks Montgomery why all of the other people on the island have strong animal-like features. Montgomery swears, then makes up the excuse the men are from San Fransisco. As Montgomery goes out, Charles hears the cries filled with pain from the puma. He steps out of his room and goes to explore the island.
